I'm always amazed how a single kit can inspire such versatility, and the January Kit from Flying Unicorn, Carpe Diem, is no exception. With this kit I created a shabby chic layout, a washi-covered layout, an industrial grunge layout, a sunny layout and a card, all with a completely different feel from one another.
My poor, long-suffering DH Evan (okay, the long-suffering is tongue-in-cheek, I think he has it pretty good!) does not get his share of scrappy love, so it was definitely time for him to feature in a layout all his own (whenever he does appear, it is usually because he is holding one or more of our kids). This picture is so totally Evan that I just had to use it.
I used Pink Paislee Portfolio and Basic Grey Serenade papers from the main kit and feel a bit like I threw the kitchen sink at them, but I love the result. I used mists from my stash (Tattered Angels Sun Sisters and Lindy's Moonshadow Mist in Buccaneer Bay Blue) over the Tattered Angels Glimmer Screens included in the Embellishment Add-On and some Dusty Attic Fish Net from my stash, added some gauze, machine stitching, stamping, doodling, painting - you name it.
This year I got over my dilemma about using flowers on guy layouts, and couldn't resist tucking these adorable Bazzil Basics blooms from the Main Kit throughout my layout. I have an on-going love affair with Inka-Gold, and I was so happy to find 2 pots included in the Embellishment Add-On - I used the Gold on the flowers and DA Fish Net and used the Steel Blue on another layout.
A couple closeups:
If you haven't yet, be sure to pop into the Flying Unicorn Store to pick up your January Carpe Diem kit and add-ons, and while you're there check out the Gift Sets of Gelatos - the restock came in on Monday and these are HAWT - they sold out in a matter of hours the first time, as well as the art journals which are being added this week.
