Video Tutorial - Altered Wine Canister for My Creative Scrapbook

I'm up on the My Creative Scrapbook blog today with a start-to-finish video tutorial on how I converted a S'well water bottle cylinder into a wine bottle canister for a housewarming gift using the November Limited Edition kit.

Here's a preview of the completed project:

And the video, which includes instructions on how to make your own vine from the flowers in the kit:

A couple closeups of the project:

Gosh I love those beautiful Blue Fern Studios poppies!

My Creative Scrapbook - I Like Big Trucks (And I Cannot Lie)

I'm back today with my third project with the glorious November My Creative Scrapbook Limited Edition kit.

The Tale of Treasures paper has gorgeous subtle blue patterning which I built on with some stenciling. To get a subtle blue, I mixed two colours of Dazzlerz with clear crackle paste, and sprinkled clear glitter on top. For a little added definition, I traced the outline of the damask pattern with a grey Aquarelle pencil and blended it into the background with water.

To create a masculine look I used corrugated cardboard, and diecut then dry embossed some gears out of Kraft Glassine, which I distressed with blue and gold paints.

I added a couple rustic handmade blooms made from kraft glassine and burlap, and diecut some vines from green cardstock.

I love the fussy-cuttable images on the Blue Fern papers, and had cut out this pocket watch with a bird inside from one of the calling cards to use on a project. I also tucked one of the metal Prima trinkets into the cluster.

I painted the canvas Thickers from the kit with mists to colour match them to my picture as a final touch.

Thanks for stopping by today!

My Creative Scrapbook - Thank You Box

My Creative Scrapbook's November kits are on sale now, and I had the pleasure of guest designing with the Limited Edition kit once again this month. Today I'm sharing an altered Thanksgiving box made with supplies from the LE kit and a couple stamps - the perfect little box for some chocolates or another similar treat for a hostess gift.

To give you some perspective on the size of the box, it is an iPhone 5 box. I topped it with a step card accented with burlap and some Tim Holtz pumpkins and wheat stamp on some of the Blue Fern Studios Memoires paper from the kit and coloured in with Gelatos.

To trim the front of my box I cut one of the Blue Fern Studios Lace Rounds in half and heat embossed it with aged gold embossing enamel and mounted it with one of the Prima metal trinkets from the kit.

I love these Blue Fern Studios flowers, especially the poppy-style ones. To add to the rustic feel I hand cut some leaves from burlap and tucked them into the flower cluster.

I coloured the canvas Thickers from the kit with yellow mist, and finished the whole project off with some splatters of white paint.

Thank you for stopping in today! If you haven't picked up your November kit yet, please be sure to visit the My Creative Scrapbook store, and for tons more inspiration, check out the blog.

Remember When - My Creative Scrapbook Limited Edition Kit

It's reveal day at My Creative Scrapbook, and I am happy to have been asked to guest design with the Limited Edition kit again this month.

It's no secret that I love Blue Fern Studios papers and chipboard, so I was very excited to get this kit, which is packed full of the Memoires paper collection, Blue Fern Studios flowers (which are quickly becoming a favourite!) and lots of chipboard.

For my first layout, I scrapped a photo of my three boys on a hike for their dad's birthday in May of this year. It can be a real challenge to get a photo where all three are smiling, looking at the camera and have their eyes open, so I cherish the photos that work out.

To start I coated both sides of the background paper with clear gesso. Blue Fern papers are nice and thick and stand up well to mixed media as is, but I find that reinforcing the paper on both sides with gesso has two benefits; it reduces warping dramatically when working with water or wet media and it prevents your media soaking into the paper, which makes it easier to move around on your background (or to sop up with a paper towel with a minimum of mess if you make a mistake).

I started by adding some stencilling with an alphabet stencil to the background with light modelling paste for a subtle effect that would absorb rather than resist the mediums I would add later (you can see  the stencilling in the photo above). I then added my paper layers and painted on some shades of blue using mists.

I cut the birdhouse flourish chipboard apart into four pieces that I could layer in each of the three clusters on the page, and painted it simply with gold mist.

Have I mentioned how much I love these flowers? I dabbed a bit of white gesso on them, then covered my photo with some scraps and splattered the completed page with red mist and opaque white paint.

Thank you for stopping by today! If you haven't yet picked up your Limited Edition kit, or if you want to see the other three November kits on sale now, please stop by My Creative Scrapbook.

My Creative Scrapbook - November Limited Edition Kit Reveal

Happy weekend, Bloggers! At this time of year I get irrationally excited for the time change, and that elusive extra hour of sleep. I say irrational, because as I'm sure other parents know, when you have little kids no one is going to get to take advantage of that extra hour of shut eye.

I can console myself with some other excitement happening this weekend, though: it's kit reveal day at My Creative Scrapbook today. I had the pleasure of guest designing with the Limited Edition kit again this month, and I have to tell you, it's a favourite of mine, with Blue Fern Studios Memoires papers and flowers, Prima flowers and several beautiful chipboard pieces.

I look forward to sharing my full projects with the kit, but in the meantime, here are some sneaks to wet your whistle.

Be sure to check out the My Creative Scrapbook store for available kits.

Have a great weekend - I hope you get that extra hour of sleep!
