Without further delay here is my project using the May Mixed Media Kit, which features Prima Resist Canvas Mixed Media Covers.

Although I love the Dylusions sprays in the kit (I was so excited to get my hands on the new White Linen!!!), I wanted to use my new Lindy's sprays to make a seaside Guest Book for my Mother-In-Law's birthday for their cabin on the ocean.  We get the most gorgeous sunsets there. I did use the White Linen on the inside, and am saving the Turquoise for another project.

The dunes were made by layering and crinkling canvas tape and masking tape.

Julie Nutting and Prima Lifetime Tag

Have you picked up the new Julie Nutting collage couture stamps?  When they arrived in the Flying Unicorn Store I couldn't wait to get my hands on them!

The scraps from my April Kit, Whispers of Spring, were perfect for these stamps - between the Bo Bunny C'est La Vie and Prima Lifetime papers it was easy to make the girl's skin, hair and dress, as well as the tag itself (I traced the packaging from the stamp onto one of the 6X12 Studio 75 papers from the kit).  For the background of the tag I used various Prima and Kaisercraft background stamps, a Prima Chalk Ink Edger.

The paper piecing is easy.  Start by stamping your image onto thick cardstock; this will act as your base.  Fussy cut it out.  Then stamp the image (or portions thereof) onto patterned paper, fussy cut and adhere to the base (I like Glossy Accents for this).  To create layers for the hair, I cut two copies of the hair, and cut the topmost layer into individual strands, leaving the ends unglued.  I colored the shirt and shoes with Copic markers, and added Glossy Accents to the shoes for the illusion of patent leather.

The flowers are fussy cut from one of the papers, topped with Prima roses and coated in gold Pearl-Ex powder from the kit.  The Prima laser cut wooden butterfly and bird are coated in gesso and stamped with a script stamp.

I can't wait to play with these stamps some more!

Reverse Canvas Handbag Off-The-Page Project

Every month Flying Unicorn hosts a Mid-Month University (MMU) Challenge which challenges participants to make a different Off-The-Page project each month.  I love Off-The-Page projects, and lucky me, it's my turn to host this month!

My challenge is to make a reverse canvas.  Easy peasy.  If you haven't seen a reverse canvas before it is exactly as it sounds - you turn a canvas around and decorate the backside, making a shadow box for your project.  You can go shabby, mixed media, clean and simple, big canvas or small - however you'd like as long as you decorate the backside of a canvas.

Here's a double reverse canvas I prepared for inspiration.

Here's the back - I used batting between the canvas and the satin to provide padding for the quilting pattern, and pushed the brads through the canvas and fastened them to create the dimples.

And it folds closed into a handbag.

Thank You Easel Cards

There are a couple of days left to enter your Easel Cards in my Card/Tag Challenge over at the Flying Unicorn Forums - the challenge closes April 14th at 8pm EST.

Here are a couple more cards I made for inspiration, and to thank the two incredibly lovely young ladies, Bex and Louise, who taught Elliot and Brennan to ski this year.  We couldn't have asked for better instructors for the boys.

The first card features papers from Studio 75's Winter Time collection, available in the Flying Unicorn Store.

Thank goodness for the internet - I Googled "Skier Digi" and was so fortunate to find this cute little skier from The Paper Shelter which I colored with Copic and Spectrum Noir markers.

For the background I used Glass Beads Gel through the new (awesome!) Prima Crackle Mask, then added Picket Fence Distress Stain to add a little definition.

 The snowflakes are fantastic glittery chipboard from the Pink Paislee City Sidewalks collection.

The second card features the same darling skier, with papers from 13 @rts Frosted Life collection. 

I fussy cut some of the bricks from the paper and accented them with a Sharpie Poster Paint Marker and black Copic marker.  I colored the gauze with Copics as well, and finished everything off with some more of the chipboard snowflakes.

Splish Splash *** Flying Unicorn April KOM ***

I'm here today with another layout featuring papers and embellishments from the April Flying Unicorn Kit of the Month Whispers of Spring.  Denise's challenge on the Flying Unicorn Forums this month is Paper Tearing, and I used this as a jumping off point for this layout - I tore chunks out of the outside of the page, then blended the script paper I layered underneath with molding paste and Lindy's Stamp Gang Yellow Rose of Texas from the kit.

Here is my little one, Colby - if you crouch down to take a photo of him he thinks he's supposed to crouch down, too LOL.

The new Prima Grunge Chevron mask complements the pattern of the Bo Bunny C'est La Vie papers so well.

Flying Unicorn's Educator extraordinaire, Limor Webber, recently posted a project where she had transformed a Prima Typo Bulb into a hot air balloon and I couldn't resist giving it a go.  I painted the bulb with a couple of layers of gesso, then added details with a Viva Pearl Pen in Sunny Yellow.

Flying Unicorn April OTP

The Off-The-Page project included in this month's Flying Unicorn Kit of the Month Whispers of Spring is a Kaisercraft picture frame.

I started by sponging on gesso, then misted it heavily while wet with Lindy's Moonshadow Mist in Buccaneer Bay Blue.  I love the two-toned effect of these mists.

I have had these 7 Gypsies Scrabble tiles in my stash for close to 6 years just waiting to be used (I had intended to use them on an altered project for Brennan, but naturally there aren't 3 "N"'s in the pack LOL).

Lots of Dusty Attic from the Flying Unicorn store, including the new Cyclone Wire.  I left most of the chippies naked, with just a slight trace of chalk ink.  I heat embossed the cyclone wire with Stampendous Aged Embossing Enamel in Silver - love the weathered look it gives the chippy, just like a real chain-link fence.

April Guest Designer at OUAS

The Creative Team was invited to Guest Design this month, and I had so much fun playing with the sketch.

The theme for the month is "the Best Day", but how could I choose just one?  So instead I scrapped a photo that represents some of our best days - relaxing up at my in-laws' summer cabin. Sun, the ocean, time spent with family, it's perfect.  The beautiful young lady in the photo is my niece Kailey.

And what better paper line to represent the best day than Prima's Divine?

I mixed molding paste and glass bead gel to achieve the pebbly texture and applied it through the Prima chevron mask.  Tattered Angels Opal Paint System coordinates amazingly with these papers and I added it along with some Shimmerz Coloringz in No Yoking.
