Pool Boys

Every month I have the best intentions of entering some of the wonderful challenges out there. Sometimes I accomplish it, sometimes not. This month has been crazy, with an anniversary trip to NYC with DH for 9 days, a charity bike ride to a resort town 120kms away and 6 days in Vegas for CHA, coupled with all the necessary catch up at work when I have been in town. But I have managed to squeak in one challenge layout, right under the wire, for the Blue Fern Studios and Shimmerz Paints July challenges (literally, they close in 42 minutes - nothing like cutting it close!).

I dug deep into my stash and pulled out some Bo Bunny Barefoot and Bliss papers from 2011 to make room for some new CHA goodies and paired them with two beautiful Blue Fern flourishes I picked up recently and altered everything with a healthy dollop of Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Spun Sugar and Lemon Drop.

The picture is of my middle son, Brennan, and his cousin Kailen in Grandma's kiddie pool last summer.

Here is the gorgeous sketch from Blue Fern:

I applied the Spun Sugar Dazzlerz through a Crafter's Workshop mask using a palette knife, then pounced the whole thing with a sea sponge to remove some of the paint and create texture.  To create a more watery effect I misted the wet Dazzlerz with Shimmerz Coloringz in Lime in da Coconut and Vibez in Jeni B Bleu.

The Blue Fern chippies were altered with the same Shimmerz products.

The July challenge at Shimmerz was to use a mask - any mask.  In addition to the Crafter's Workshop Cosmic Swirl mask, I used my new Prima chekered mask to tie all the layers together.

And completed the layout with gorgeous flowers from the Flying Unicorn Store.

August starts off with a week at my in-laws' summer cabin with the kids, so I am hoping for lots of scrappy time to kick off the month!

I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful summer!
